Nestlé India Automated DC With A Digital Twin

Nestlé India launches its Automated and Paperless Distribution Centre in Bhiwandi, reinforcing commitment to Sustainability and Digitalisation

INDIA | Nestlé India recently launched its state-of-the-art Distribution Centre (DC) in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra.

The DC is the embodiment of Nestlé India’s belief that technology is a driving force for progress. This is the first DC in Nestlé India to have a Digital Twin, a planning tool for warehouse operations that helps simulate different scenarios in a virtual environment and take actions accordingly, thus helping with better planning and preparedness.

The distribution centre is also equipped with AI-enabled CCTV, an Operations Command hub, a digital rack inspection system, and sensor-fitted material handling equipment, strengthening the security system.

With approx. 20,000 pallet positions and the largest cold room for chocolate storage in the distribution centre, the company has raised the industry standards in logistics.

Completed in a record seven months, the distribution centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a dedicated repacking centre and India’s first shuttle racking system. This dense racking system helps improve space efficiency in the warehouse. The distribution centre is also entirely digitally operated, making it a paperless facility.

“Efficiency, agility, safety and sustainability are integral to our value chain. These elements are achieved through a perfect ‘symphony’ of product and information flow. The Bhiwandi Distribution Centre exemplifies our team’s innovation and incredible efforts, bringing a combination of Optimal Automation Shuttle Racking, Digitalised Operations, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning based synchronised planning, and unique omnichannel service offerings for our customers,” said Varun Gupta, Head, Supply Chain, Nestlé India.

“In line with our commitment to Net Zero goals, 25 percent of our cargo on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route is now powered by alternate fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing efficiency. Our logistics team has launched an ‘Operations Command Hub’ and a ‘Logistics Operations Competence Centre’ to integrate the sustainability agenda in our logistics further.”

This has been made possible through the continued partnership between Nestlé India and its logistics partners. As a part of the partnership, Nestlé India would continue to scale alternative vehicles on the Sanand-Bhiwandi route.
