Plasdene Glass-Pak Limited has acquired the Auckland-based Glass Packaging Division of Wainhouse Distribution.
Plasdene Glass-Pak is an industry leader in wholesale rigid packaging sourcing, supply and distribution, including glass and plastic bottles, jars, containers, closures, cartons and gift packaging.
With an unmatched product portfolio, the Company’s extensive client base crosses a broad range of industries, including food, beverage, wine, pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial and agriculture.
Plasdene Glass-Pak is proudly owned and operated by two generations of the Pearson family. Daughters Jayne and Kacy hold senior positions as Company Directors and Co-General Managers, alongside founding stakeholders Ken and Margaret Pearson.
Originally Renshaws Glass, and founded in 1983 by John and Sonia Wainhouse, Wainhouse Distribution Ltd has supplied rigid packaging to New Zealand businesses and end users for over 41 years.
The Australian-based Plasdene Glass-Pak (PG-P) has been connected with New Zealand for more than 35 years, having proudly supplied glass, plastic, and metal packaging products to New Zealand through its partner and sub-distributor, Wainhouse Distribution.
Already a formidable rigid packaging supplier with a 7-branch warehouse and distribution footprint across Australia and a deep history in service and supply excellence, the establishment of a New Zealand site makes Plasdene Glass-Pak an ANZ business, delivering a world-class, 10,000 SKU product portfolio and global sourcing capabilities to the New Zealand market.
With more than 30 years’ experience at the helm of the Wainhouse Distribution Packaging Division, Plasdene Glass-Pak is delighted that Sean Wainhouse, son of founders John and Sonia, will continue with Plasdene Glass-Pak NZ as the newly appointed New Zealand Country Manager.
“The Pearson family are thrilled to announce the launch of Plasdene Glass-Pak, New Zealand. New Zealand has always been part of our long-term strategy, and the timing was right to make this acquisition of our long-term sub-distributor happen,” said Managing Director and Founder, Ken Pearson.
“We want to acknowledge our good friends, the Wainhouse family “across the ditch”, for more than 30 years’ of business partnership with Plasdene, which has allowed us a solid foundation from which to grow business directly. New Zealand customers will now have direct access to a global network of quality packaging options, world-class infrastructure support leveraging the buying power of PG-P, with the same localised presence and New Zealand market expertise Kiwi clients know and trust.”
This latest acquisition by Plasdene is the first internationally, following the purchase of Vinkem Packaging in 2024 and the major acquisition of Silverlock Packaging ten years prior. This makes Plasdene Glass-Pak arguably the largest, independent, family-owned packaging distribution business in Australia and now, New Zealand.
“We remain steadfast in our belief in the Company’s future across ANZ, and we’re excited for the opportunities ahead, as we continue to invest in our growth, success, and long-term sustainability,” added Pearson.
“As we look ahead, our focus remains on driving continuous improvement, client innovation, supply continuity with increased inventory holdings, and exceptional service, and we can’t wait to demonstrate to our New Zealand clients how we work and live by our Company-wide catch-cry, 'Partner with Us and Grow.’”
Whilst the business prepares the new Auckland-based site for warehousing and trade, Plasdene Glass-Pak NZ will temporarily operate from the existing Wainhouse Distribution premises in Auckland, with an expected transition timeframe of early June 2025.
