CCEP Introduces Robotic Dog Into Operations

UK | Coca-Cola Europacific Partners has introduced Spot, a robotic inspection dog developed by Boston Dynamics, at its East Kilbride and Wakefield manufacturing sites, marking the first deployment of the technology across its GB operations.

Across both sites, Spot will support CCEP’s maintenance teams to monitor almost 600 inspection points across seven production lines, collecting real-time data on equipment status without interrupting production.

Equipped with advanced sensors, the robots capture vibration, ultrasound and thermography data, alongside visual monitoring of equipment conditions and maintenance priorities, a capability that leveraged the latest AI Visual Language Models.

Spot’s technology has also supported sustainability goals by detecting air and CO₂ leaks and identifying equipment operating outside optimal conditions, helping reduce overall energy consumption.

The move followed a successful pilot at CCEP’s Barcelona site, before Spot was rolled out across nine sites across Spain, France, Germany, Australia, Indonesia and The Netherlands, and represented the next phase of the company’s robotics expansion programme, with the GB team building on earlier learnings to deploy the technology across its operations.

By shifting from manual maintenance checks to background monitoring, CCEP’s engineers can identify potential issues earlier and prioritise work more effectively.

The introduction has also driven on-site skills development. Reliability engineers, automation specialists and apprentices have been trained to operate and programme the robots, creating opportunities for upskilling as part of CCEP’s wider focus on building future capabilities.

Spot will operate autonomously along preprogrammed routes and can run for around 90 minutes before recharging and uploading collected data.
