AUSTRALIA | Toll Group has announced the next phase of its AUD 67 million investment in sustainable transport solutions with the deployment of a new fleet of electric rigid trucks in partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP).
Launched across Toll’s network, 12 Volvo FM battery electric rigids will replace existing diesel vehicles in CCEP’s national delivery network. These rigids offer a quieter, lower-emission solution for beverage distribution without compromising reliability, safety, or customer service.
Each vehicle has a 12-pallet capacity and a charging range of up to 270 km. Designed for multiple deliveries across key metropolitan routes, the fleet will collectively reduce an estimated 283 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Vehicles will operate from CCEP’s distribution centres in Botany (NSW), Eastern Creek (NSW), Richlands (QLD), and Hazelmere (WA). They will be supported by site-specific charging infrastructure, including 30kW to 60kW dual-outlet charging stations.
These facilities have been co-invested in by CCEP, reinforcing its commitment to enabling the transition to electric vehicle technology.
Beyond environmental benefits, the electric rigids are equipped with advanced safety systems and technology to protect drivers, enhance service delivery performance, and support community safety.
This initiative marked the next phase of Toll’s broader AUD 67 million investment in battery electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure, co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its ‘Driving the Nation’ program.
In total, 28 EVs will be launched to Toll customers over the coming months, making it Australia’s largest deployment of battery-electric heavy vehicles in the third-party sector.
Phillip Parsons, Director of Logistics at CCEP, said the initiative supported their ongoing commitment to working with suppliers to build a sustainable, resilient, and low-carbon supply chain.
Insights from the program will contribute to broader industry knowledge on energy usage, route planning, and vehicle performance, and support the long-term transition to low-emissions freight transport in Australia.
