Auckland Butcher Closed by Police

An Auckland butcher has been told by police that he must stop offering customers a ‘click and collect’ option.

Under Alert Level 4, butchers can only operate with contacts delivery services.

Richard Hogg who operates on Victoria Ave in Remuera had been defiant in operating despite being in Level 4, but police visited Hogg and told him to stop.

For those in the area, it seemed unfair that they could visit the dairy next to Hogg’s butcher, but not the butcher.

Police said they had made visits to other butchers in surrounding areas, including one in Greenwood Corner.

Epsom ACT MP David Seymour is lobbying for butchers to open at Level 4 as an essential service and has said that the inconsistency of the COVID-19 trading laws need fixing.
