Fonterra Renews Investment In AgriZeroNZ Partnership

Fonterra has committed NZD 31 million over the next three years to the next phase of AgriZeroNZ, the public-private partnership working to find practical, affordable solutions to on-farm emissions.

The partnership brings together the Government and agribusiness organisations, including Fonterra, Synlait, the a2 Milk Company, Silver Fern Farms, ANZCO, Ravensdown, Alliance, Farmlands, Rabobank, ASB, ANZ and BNZ, to drive progress on reducing biogenic methane emissions.

Established in 2023, the programme is focused on developing options that work in New Zealand’s pastoral system without compromising on-farm productivity or profitability.

Fonterra CEO Richard Allen said recommitting to AgriZeroNZ accelerates progress by bringing government and agribusiness together to develop the tools farmers need at a scale and pace that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.

"The continued investment keeps momentum in AgriZeroNZ’s important mission," he said.

"Reducing on-farm emissions is likely going to require a multi-faceted approach, so continued investment supports a portfolio of methane and other mitigation tools moving closer to farm-ready solutions."

Since the partnership's launch, it has committed funding to more than 20 ventures, research projects, and trials, aiming to make a range of tools available to New Zealand farmers by 2030.
