Pastificio Garofalo x Swisslog Build High Bay Warehouse

Pastificio Garofalo selects Swisslog to build advanced high bay warehouse solution

Pastificio Garofalo, an Italian pasta manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Swisslog to implement a state-of-the-art high bay warehouse solution.

Founded in 1789, Garofalo has a rich history in the pasta industry and has expanded its domestic and international presence. Since 2014, it has been majority-owned by Ebro Foods, a Spanish multinational group specialising in rice, pasta, and condiments.

Today, Garofalo is a leader in quality pasta production in Italy and exports its products to over eighty countries worldwide. Its sales revenues have grown significantly, by 35 percent, since 2019/2020, mainly due to exports. The firm required a cost-effective and reliable automated logistics solution to support this growth.

Swisslog successfully outbid competitors with an advanced high bay warehouse solution. The new facility, to be constructed at Garafalo’s current production site in Gragnano, will support production, raw materials storage, and finished product storage.

It will handle pallets for shipping finished pasta products and connect to the existing production site via a monorail system.

“We are very proud to have embarked on this journey in automation with Swisslog, and we are confident that this investment will provide increased delivery performance for all our customers”, said Massimo Menna, CEO of Pastificio Lucio Garofalo SpA.

The project scope includes a high bay warehouse with 6 Vectura S32 cranes capable of handling 100 pallets per hour inbound and 170 pallets per hour outbound.

A ProMove pallet conveyor system and a monorail system transport goods through the facility while a wrapper prepares pallets for shipping. A control system and SynQ software manage the automated technology.

Swisslog secured the order in November 2024, and the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) is expected to be signed in early 2026.
