UK | According to the UK Government, a typical mass sporting event can generate up to seven tonnes of waste. CLUBZERØ has teamed up with Barclays for the second consecutive year at the Wimbledon Championships to reduce single-use waste within The Queue.
In January 2023, Barclays became the Official Banking Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, uniting two iconic British Institutions.
Building on the success of Barclays’ 2023 collaboration with CLUBZERØ, where fans enjoyed refreshing juices in CLUBZERØ’s returnable cold cups, this year, they continued their partnership to launch CLUBZERØ’s latest food container range.
As Wimbledon opened its gates, Barclays customers were offered strawberries and cream ice cream in the bank’s Game, Seat, Match Area, served in CLUBZERØ’s latest packaging innovation: the Perfect Pot.
These Perfect Pots were expertly designed in-house at CLUBZERØ to ensure exceptional temperature tolerance, durability, and customer satisfaction, making them the ideal choice for serving summer favourites.
Alongside the Perfect Pots, CLUBZERØ is also set to unveil its new and improved Drop Point Boxes, designed to support significant sporting events with convenient drop points for customers to return packaging.
Throughout the tournament, the Perfect Pots were serviced daily, using Zedify’s emission-free electric vehicles to provide sustainable collections and redistributions of packaging.
Zedify, which received investment from Barclays’ Sustainable Impact Capital and a mandate to invest £500m of Barclays capital into global climate tech start-ups by the end of 2027, was the UK’s largest e-cargo bike delivery network, providing a sustainable delivery service across nine UK cities.
“Our perfect pots are the newest addition to our returnable packaging range, following months of rigorous development with our customers and partners,” said Safia Qureshi, Founder and CEO of CLUBZERØ.
“Establishing standards for returnable packaging is critical, and we are thrilled to be pioneering this through our continued work at the Championships, Wimbledon, in partnership with Barclays.”
Barclays first supported CLUBZERØ through its Unreasonable Impact programme in 2021. This programme, a partnership with Unreasonable Group, provided high-growth ventures with the network and resources they needed to address pressing social and environmental challenges.
