Risk Management for Food Industry

Risk Management for Food Industry

LRQA has warned food businesses to meet regulatory obligations, ensure product integrity, and maintain high-quality standards to meet consumer expectations of safe and authentic products across the supply chain in preparation for the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Conference 2024.

Kimberly Coffin, Global Technical Director for Supply Chain Assurance at LRQA, stated that product integrity has become a crucial client challenge in the age of Assurance 4.0, the new era of risk management.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) shared this view. It claimed that geopolitical, technological, and climate changes led to the growth of turbulence and the risk of global catastrophe for supply chains.

According to Coffin, food safety professionals need to consider inter-connected risks when assessing risks in the food safety supply chain, like the impact of climate-related crop failure on raw material availability and the risk of cyber attacks.

She also emphasised the importance of understanding where the most valuable data resides and how it can be used to identify signals of vulnerability, assess the efficacy of existing controls, and inform risk management priorities.

As part of her Tech Talk, Coffin will outline the critical steps businesses must take to navigate this new era of risk. The GFSI Conference event 2024 will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore from the 8th to the 11th of April.
