New Tasman Leader

Tim Whyte

Fortress Technology, a global leader in food contamination and check weighing equipment, has appointed Tim Whyte as the new general manager of its manufacturing hub in New Zealand. Whyte, the former Manufacturing Manager of Dynamic Inspection, brings over a decade of experience with the company, succeeding founders Bob Philpott and Steve Atkins.

Bob and Steve, who played pivotal roles in establishing Fortress as a market leader in food safety equipment in New Zealand, Australia, and neighbouring APAC countries, are stepping down. Whyte's extensive experience in running the New Zealand manufacturing department and overseeing the service team positions him well to lead Fortress Technology into its next phase of global growth.

Whyte Whyte joined the food safety specialist in 2013, attracted by the goal of making the food industry safer. As an electrical engineering apprentice turned electrician and electrical inspector, Whyte's background has given him valuable insights into the industry's intricacies. His decade-long experience with Fortress has been marked by a commitment to fine-tuning equipment for enhanced food safety.

The transition in leadership was confirmed during Whyte's visit to Fortress Technology's Toronto headquarters, where he found a close alignment with business values. The move ensures a seamless transition, maintaining the legacy of Dynamic while paving the way for increased food security and safety.

Whyte acknowledged the importance of familiarity with equipment, citing it as a significant asset for leaders in understanding and addressing unique production challenges. His leadership is expected to open up Fortress's R&D department, leading to the development of new technologies to meet evolving food safety requirements in the Tasman market.

With the Fortress R&D department becoming more accessible, Whyte anticipated the emergence of technologies, including QA, testing, X-ray, Combination, and Checkweighing equipment, tailored to specific industries in the Tasman market. The proximity to the Australian market will also enable Fortress to offer more responsive services to local agents.

Whyte is focused on upholding standards and serving customers, ensuring food production lines run smoothly. He emphasised the importance of providing innovative machinery to meet evolving needs, helping processors expand their market reach while complying with production standards.

Tim Whyte, now the General Manager at Fortress Technology New Zealand, is set to lead the company through an exciting chapter of growth and innovation.
