AUSTRALIA | Mondelēz International has celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Scoresby confectionery factory by investing in new technology to secure its future, producing iconic treats in Australia.
For 50 years, the Scoresby factory, located in Melbourne’s east, has been home to some of Australia and New Zealand’s favourite lolly brands, including Cadbury Pascall Clinkers, Sour Patch Kids and The Natural Confectionery Company.
Mondelēz International has installed new AUD 8 million technology to support the production of over 120 products in a range of formats, including portioned mini-bags. The new technology is part of a broader AUD 30 million investment since 2022 as a key confectionery manufacturing hub for the region, driving faster innovation across flavours, ranges and packaging.
The latest investment means the company can respond quickly to changing consumer demand, including trends driven by social media.
Mondelēz International Australia, New Zealand and Japan President Toby Smith said the Scoresby facility has been an important part of Australia’s manufacturing legacy and future.
“We are incredibly proud of our 50-year manufacturing legacy at Scoresby and the jobs we have created for hundreds of Victorians in Melbourne’s east over the decades,’’ he said.
“The AUD 8 million new packaging capability is just one part of the AUD 30 million we have invested in Scoresby over the past five years to ensure the facility has a strong future producing iconic treats locally. Our continued investment in the Scoresby factory and our team demonstrates our confidence in Australia’s ongoing capacity to manufacture the lollies we know and love right here.”
By 2035, Mondelēz International anticipates that 50 per cent of its growth will come from chocolate and the other 50 per cent will come from non-chocolate products. The company has deep roots in Victoria, with more than 1,200 employees across South Melbourne, Ringwood, Scoresby, Dandenong South and the new Truganina National Distribution Centre.
