Amazon Invests In Victoria Logistics Site

AUSTRALIA | Amazon Australia celebrated the official opening of its third fulfilment centre (FC) in Victoria.

The new 52,000 square metre facility will create more than 500 local jobs in Cranbourne West and improve delivery outcomes for Melbourne customers, while creating additional opportunities for Victorian small businesses that use Amazon to service customers across the country seamlessly.

This is one of two new, purpose-built sites Amazon has opened in Victoria this month, with the retailer also opening a logistics site in Melbourne’s northwest. Together, these represent an investment of AUD 200 million in Victoria, and the operational sites will boost delivery speeds for customers across Melbourne and create 700 new jobs across the city.

The site can store up to four million products sold on Amazon, ranging from electronics, beauty products, furniture and books to everyday essentials.

It will create more than 500 local jobs ranging from entry-level roles with on-the-job training, including training and certification programs for operating forklifts, to skilled roles in areas such as Operations, Human Resources, Engineering and Workplace Health and Safety.

The majority of jobs will be permanent full-time roles, with leading pay and comprehensive benefits such as subsidised private healthcare and up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave.

The second facility is an 8,800 square metre delivery station in Ravenhall, which will serve as a delivery point for Amazon packages, creating more than 200 local jobs. The delivery station will provide opportunities for local entrepreneurs to become an Amazon Delivery Service Partner or sign up for flexible earning opportunities with Amazon’s delivery service, Amazon Flex.

“Melbourne was the home to our first Australian fulfilment centre in 2017, and we are thrilled to continue investing in Victoria, opening our new purpose-built sites in Cranbourne West and Ravenhall. We’re proud to be creating hundreds of high-quality local job opportunities, offering on-the-job training and exciting career opportunities, in a safe and positive environment,” said Amazon Australia Country Manager, Janet Menzies.

"At Amazon, we’re focused on providing our customers with great value, wide selection and fast delivery. These new sites strengthen our ability to meet these commitments for our Victorian customers. Prime members in Melbourne are already able to enjoy the convenience of next-day delivery, and these facilities will significantly expand the range of products available for swift local delivery.”

Menzies added that Amazon was proud to support small-and medium-sized Australian businesses, and the new fulfilment centre in Cranbourne West will create additional opportunities for local businesses to expand their reach, not just in Victoria but across the entire country.

“We're excited to help these businesses grow and better serve their customers through our enhanced logistics network."

The new fulfilment centre and delivery station are both equipped with advanced technology to assist Amazon’s team as they serve Australian shoppers, contributing to the company’s efforts to deliver a smarter, faster and more consistent experience for customers in Melbourne and around Australia.

Amazon Australia now has three operating fulfilment centres in Victoria and three delivery stations, with a new Robotics Fulfilment Centre currently under construction in Craigieburn.
