Launch of New Freeze Dryers

New Zealand company, Cuddon Freeze Dry, has launched a new range of freeze dryers that use carbon dioxide instead of the standard R507A refrigerant. As a world leader in the industry, Cuddon has designed all their new machines to use the most environmentally friendly technology and match international legislation.

The Montreal Protocol was updated by the Paris Agreement in 2015 and limits the Global Warming Potential of each refrigerant gas to sub-100. R507A has a Global Warming Potential of 3895, and there are limited synthetic alternatives in the market that meet the new requirements without a shortfall in performance characteristics. 

Carbon dioxide is considered the most pragmatic and environmentally acceptable solution, as it is naturally occurring and has a Global Warming Potential of one. Ammonia was also in consideration but had a number of safety concerns that made it less attractive. 

With nearly 60 years in the industry, Cuddon continues to lead the way in delivering sublimation technology excellence. The new range of Cuddon freeze dryers has been designed, built and optimised for carbon dioxide as a refrigerant and supersedes all the General Purpose machines. It provides no comprise in performance and the most advanced technology on the market. 

The bulk of the Cuddon Freeze Dry design remains the same, but the R507A components will be replaced with carbon dioxide componentry and an appropriate ice coil. It is compliant will all known requirements and certifications. The control system has been re-designed to optimise the new system and ensure the full functionality clients have come to expect from Cuddon freeze dryers.
