Applications for the Hawke’s Bay Young Fruit Grower of the Year event have opened, with the competition running over two days between the 3-4th June 2021. The event is a fantastic opportunity for up-and-coming young horticulturists to challenge their knowledge and practical skills against other young future leaders of the industry.
Contestants will be put through their paces on the 3rd of June with a series of theoretical and practical challenges. The event runs in conjunction with the BNZ National Horticulture Fieldays at the Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay.
The following evening a formal Awards Dinner will be held at the Toitoi Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre, where contestants participate in a speech competition and awards presented to the winners.
The Hawke’s Bay competition is one of six regional heats. The winners of the regional heats will continue to the New Zealand Young Fruit Grower final and then contest for the Young Grower of the Year title and their share of $12,000 worth of prizes.
Contestants must be under the age of 30 as at the 31 December 2021, working in the industry, studying towards, or have already completed their Level 4 Industry Training Scheme.
